Oh, the signs outside are frightful...

Sure...the lift tickets are free, but they kill you on the concessions.

For those actually in attendance, it's not as inspiring.

What were they trying to say there?
-------------------------------------------------

"God gave us a palette of colors to keep the day from being gray"
"On a rainy day, carry a smile and a bright umbrella"
Two sides of the same sign

This church sign is brought to you by the letter 'N', the number 6, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

"When prayer goes up, the glory cloud comes down."

Is that Newton's long-lost 4th Law of Motion?

When humor-blogs.com goes up, the glory cloud comes down. Seriously, you should see it.

Keep 'em coming.

  1. I don't get the first one. Is it... symbolic? "Lift" tickets? Like... lift up to the heavens? I DONT GET IT, JOEL. It's crummy.

  2. Sadly, I believe they are, in fact, referring to "lift tickets to heaven".

What snow has to do with anything, I don't know.

Maybe it's nuclear winter. Maybe they're inviting nuclear apocaplypse because they have lift tickets to heaven.

"I'VE GOT: LIFT TICKETS TO PARADISE..."

  3. Boy, Jamie's "not in attendance" sign is a hanging curve just waiting to be crushed over the wall. Nice.

  4. If where I lived was in the mountains with a ski loft around, it MIGHT make sense. But here in Virginia, we are at least a 5 or 6 hour drive away from the nearest ski lodge.

This one church has one of the highest "What the #$@#" factors for their signage. The other signs are so biblical and non-crummy (this week's is something like "I am the way and the life") that I think the church sign decision making process goes like this:

Church Sign manager: It's Tuesday, time to pick the new sign.
    Heads, something biblical and inspirational.
Tails, something I think is funny and witty.

When the coin lands on tails, that is when Joel gets some pictures. :)

  5. Maybe the "inspired message" sign is like a tongue-in-cheek definition of the word "sermon"? I still don't really get it, and I have no idea why it's on their sign.

  6. Hey Joel and everyone,

On that first one, I have to say hmmmm, if they mean "lift to heaven spiritually" then hey cool I am all on board. But if they meant physically, ummmmmm Jonestown Anybody????? NO THANK YOU!! LOL.

And since I really dont want to ASSuME; then yeah, the sign should not have been used!

NOTE: My husband was not raised in the church, so when he sees signs he always asks me what they mean, and even I question the signs because they really are confusing!

What was the scripture in the Bible that says, "Do not become a stumbling block for your brother". So yea......

PS Joel, the church that I get my signs from for you has had AWANA's posted on there since before last summer and it hasnt changed, maybe they read their sign on here! LOL Hopefully more soon!

  7. I think the "sermon" definition is supposed to be clever. The inspiring message intended for a group of people who miss it because they don't attend. That's my best crack at it.

The "soooo loved" (John 3:16, but the "o" key stuck? "God sooooo loved the world?") and rainy day signs just nauseate me.

  8. Maybe the "sermon" sign pokes fun at those of us who have during a sermon thought, "It's too bad (insert name here) isn't here. He really needs to hear this."
