Our Bible is a recursive loop.

I prefer to keep things out of my end, if at all possible. Especially beginnings.

Unfortunately, it is to be followed by Miserable May.

Except on the West Coast, where He will be appearing on tape delay. And don't forget to turn in next month for Jesus Live II!!

Their church sign is a bulwark constantly failing.

"The road to the Kingdom of God is always under construction."

If that's the case, then Jesus' last words should have been: "It is behind schedule".

"Is what you worship, worth it?"

I wonder if that explains my little detour?

Even Luther gets snarked here! I'm curious what messages on church signs are considered OK, other than worship times, etc.

  3. Mr. D: I should have used that. Funny stuff.

Anonymous: You've pretty much covered it.

I have no problem with Luther, nor with that hymn. How many non-Christians are going to read that sign and
    1) Understand it
    2) Know why they're "speaking" in old English

Why is there a need for a "message" other than dates/times and/or easily understood, not out of context Scripture?

  4. If the Prince of Darkness sign is on a road in a 55mph zone someone might miss the not.

  5. Actually, the third sign is missing a letter. It was supposed to read "Jesus Liver!"

Do the people that did the "friending" sign have a clue what facebook actually is?

Apparently, the road to the Kingdom of God should've gone with union labor, instead of just that one Jewish carpenter.

Joel, I liked your snark on the Mighty Fortress is a God sign, but I may agree with anon. That song is so popular, esp in Protestant churches...the sign could be angled to what we call "reverts" (those who have drifted away). Spot sign. Hey! I remember that song! Humming "A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing, etc etc...how does the rest of it go? Eh, maybe I should go to church and find out."

I know, I know, they'll just look up lyrics on the internet. But the song does communicate some strong theology there.

And just to undercut my own argument, my Catholic university rings the carillon at 9am and 3pm (which is kind of traditional in Catholic circles for stopping to say a short prayer, like the Angelus), and one of the songs in rotation is --yes indeedy-- Martin Luther's A Mighty Fortress Is Our God. Since this is the middle of class, I sometimes ask if anyone happens to know the name of the song. Usually one person in 25 does. And uh, the school is 40% Protestant. (They don't do better with the Catholic classics either, either. Oy.)

  8. What the crap is up with that straggler "N" on the "AWESOME APRIL IS N COMING" sign? Seriously. . . it changes the WHOLE MEANING of the WHOLE SIGN! =O
