OK...this church is having some seriously bad luck when it comes to having things stolen. (see the 5th sign down on the linked post)
Anyone else think they're crying "Wolf" on all the thievery in order to make "clever" signs?
In other words: How the heck do you allow someone to just walk away with an an entire air conditioning unit and get away with it?!? I mean, was it just sitting there, not attached to the church building or anything significant? Isn't it a chore to disconnect these things from buildings, etc?
Or, better yet: It's January, and there's not exactly a huge underground black market for AC Units these days, now is there?
Somebody should post a note on their sign: "If you lied to me on your sign, you're gonna need the air conditioning more than the thief will"
And if they are telling the truth (both times), please consider an alarm system, or a watchdog, or moving your church to a different, less theft-prone location....something!

Check back tomorrow for a Snark post, and then Wednesday more crumminess for the rest of the week. Have a good week!
Humor-blogs.com: It is the door to the supernaturally funny.
Keep 'em coming.
I don't know whether they are easy to rob or not, but I couldn't help noticing the rather fortress/castle-esque wall behind the sign.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of wondering if it was their AC that was stolen the first time, and they're just still angry about it.
ReplyDelete***NEWS FLASH!***
THE HICKORY BEND UNITED METHODIST CHURCH SIGN HAS VANISHED. AUTHORITIES SUSPECT THEFT.
A smart thief would pose as a parishoner and volunteer to collect the offering.
ReplyDeleteMaybe A.C. stands for Augsburg Confession? Naah--they're Methodist.
ReplyDeleteApparently stealing someone's AC is now the unforgiveable sin?
ReplyDeleteA/C sealers are put next to the people that talk during movies in Hell.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, stealing A/C units is all too common. Their cores are mostly copper, which people steal and sell to scrap yards.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was working in a large metropolitan area, somebody had the cajones to steal the A/C cores off the top of a 6-story office building.
Brilliant, just brilliant.
ReplyDeleteArchitect Critic:
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping that knowledge on us. I had no idea...
I still maintain there's an awful lot of thievery happening at that church.
One time I saw a man wearing a ski mask coming out of the woods behind their building in the middle of the summer so I have a feeling that its legit.
ReplyDeleteThe castle thing is left over from their nativity scene (because Jesus was born in a castle?). It's the only time all year that they don't put stupid stuff on their sign.
Wow. What a smart church. Most don't bother with the comma after an introductory phrase.
ReplyDeleteToo bad they didn't apply their smarts to securing the A.C. unit outside a building only protected by the supernatural.
I know I'm a little late in commenting, but I'm still working through the archives... ^_^
ReplyDeleteI don't doubt the thieving; our church not only had the air conditioning unit stripped, but also the metal gutters and downspouts! The police told us that it's not uncommon for such things to be stolen from churches and sold for scrap metal.
Now, as to whether or not the sign's sentiments are Biblical... that's another issue entirely. Sadly, this sign propagates the myth of "good deeds = heaven, bad deeds = hell." Didn't these people ever read Ephesians 2?
