YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!

Those of you who know me personally know what a music freak I am. I actually moved to Nashville for music, and intended it as a career for quite some time. Unfotunately when I moved to Nashville I realized everyone else here intended it as a career, too! I still play as much as I can, but sadly it's never enough...

However, the best musical news I've heard in years came to me today: Sixpence None The Richer is getting back together!! Leigh Nash (singer) posted a blog on her MySpace page today:

"We realized we were on the same page and decided to make Sixpence None the Richer records for the next 2,000 to 3,000 years!!!! Seriously- as long as we can: ) We are in the middle of making an EP right now that will be available soon! We also have a tour planned beginning in April."

If your only familiarity with Sixpence are the ubiquitous soft rock hits "Kiss Me" or "There She Goes", then you don't have the whole picture at all.

Check out the much heavier "Angeltread" (the video's really low budget, but musically soooo good), or "Paralyzed" (ignore the dorky Anime in the YouTube fan vid). Even "Breathe Your Name" is a better pop song (IMHO) than the more popular radio hits they had.

Here's my favorite song by them:

Anyhow, I am pretty excited. The best part? They live and are based in my hometown, so now begins my quest to land a spot in the backing band. Surely their old players in the backing band have gone on to other things, right?? RIGHT?!?!?!? (In fact, if you visited the link to Leigh's MySpace page earlier in the post, you may have seen the comment I left....)

Wonder how I'm gonna keep teaching math from the road....

Anyhow, back to your regularly scheduled crumminess next week. Have a great weekend.

EDIT: For those of you wishing to spend 10 bucks on a great album, here's the 10 best songs Sixpence did according to me. Go buy them individually on Itunes, and then put them in the order I have them in an Itunes playlist for optimal listening results:

Too Far Gone
Love
Love, Salvation, the Fear of Death
I've Been Waiting
Angeltread
Paralyzed
I Can't Explain
Tension is a Passing Note
Melody of You
Within a Room, Somewhere

There. Enjoy.

  1. Um, Joel, excited much?

    :)

You know who I miss in Nashvegas? Ashley Cleveland. Man, she's amazing. Ever hear her?

  2. IC: I've calmed just a little, now that it's morning.

And I haven't heard of Ms. Cleveland playing lately, but I believe she still lives in town. And yes...very amazing.

  3. That news makes me very very happy. Glad to see that someone else appreciates them beyond "Kiss Me." The entirety of "This Beautiful Mess" is awesome and the oddly packaged self titled cd when they were on Steve Taylor's label is also good.

Ahhhh. Yay! Good music is back!

  4. Also, Within a Room Somewhere is my favorite. Ever. In fact, I must go listen to it, now.

  5. Ahhh, how I miss NashVegas, too. My longtime boyfriend grew up there and moved back for three years, then moved back down here. We often bemoan not being in the shadow of the Bat Building.

And it's also awesome that 6PNTR is getting back together! I've long liked their music. Are you serious about getting into the backing band? Because I know you'd see a lot of crummy church signs while touring the country. :-)

  6. wow, Joel, this artist is absolutely charming... and the band? fantastic!

thanks for sharing the links AND the video -- wish i'd heard of Leigh Nash a bit earlier, based on the tune i heard on her MySpace page, her Christmas music is divine. (really, i lovelovelove her voice, and can see why you're so excited by the fact the band is back together)

well done! guessing Lampsha will enjoy the music as much as i did, and as such, won't mind your own version of the Saturday Spin in the least! : )

  7. Heliotrope: I have worn out one CD and one cassette tape of "This Beautiful Mess". Thank goodness for Itunes or it'd be more.

Miss Kitty: Not really serious. I'm not gonna seek a tryout, if something happens then it happens. I think I'm s'posed to be a teacher.

    Neva: Glad you liked it!

  8. Joel - I've been a fan since "The Fatherless and the Widow" - great band, great music...the only thing that kept them from really making it was...when you listen to their songs, you have no idea what they're called. Seriously - Kiss Me and There She Goes and Breathe Your Name stayed around because when the song was done, you had the title burned into your head... But the music is nevertheless awesome - so I'll cut 'em some slack... :)

Keep up the good... er...crummy... er...work...er...

  11. Joel, I made it! And loved it! Well, I am of course, familiar with the hits, but the rest of their music, not so much. She's got a lovely voice, so it's a good thing that the band is back together. It's always good when a fave reunites and thanks for all the links!

Now let me go check out that last one again...
