Around the Web

Frequent contributor Rev. Wes Kenney posted a nice little blog entry about yesterday's batch of Crummy Church Signs. Check it out if you get a chance.

Also, today is nearly your last chance to vote in Diesel's caption contest. Yours truly is a finalist, though methinks he didn't even pick my funniest entry to be in the finals.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Good luck with the contest!
"Me thinks" (I love that and plan to use it).

Yeah, me thinks he didn't read any of my funny captions at all, otherwise all 10 of them would have been THE top 10.

I suffer from delusions of grandeur as well as stalker-frenia. :0)

So when are you coming over again?
I need some advice about Bra Fat.
Bring some good ideas because I can't breath over here! :0)

  2. Yeah, my wife chided me for not picking your best caption too, Joel. I guess I need to enlist her help next time.

All the more reason for all of your readers to beg her to do a guest post!

I know, I'm comment whoring, but it's for a good cause.

  3. I don't normally pass stuf along.. especially to strangers, but I enjoy your blog. And I fully intend on contributing - if only I could remember to keep my camera handy.

Anyways, I'm passing along a meme for seven random facts - if not seven random facts about you, but at least facts about your blog. After all, your site is about crummy church signs and you probably have lots of facts to share about your work with this site.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, read my post at Rants, Raves, & Random Thoughts.

  4. Okay, 7 random facts:

    1. I played college baseball. I still coach baseball and play in a wood-bat semi-pro league. I'm a baseball junkie.

    2. I play bass guitar. I used to play in bands, now I play at my church on Sunday mornings. You can hear my old band at www.myspace.com/joelbezaire and I also played on www.myspace.com/finna

    3. I hang out a comic shops. Well, not "shops" but the one shop near my house. Yep, with all the sweaty D&D players and everything. I play Heroclix myself (which is like D&D with comic book characters www.hcrealms.com). I'm a huge geek.

    4. If I could do anything career-wise right now, it would be write a comic book and have my dad and sister illustrate. But I'm happy being a math teacher.

    5. I don't enjoy this blog as much as people might think. Sometimes it's depressing, sometimes it's a hassle, but people seem to genuinely enjoy it and it gives me an opportunity to share my faith with people in a completely unique way. I like to think that maybe some people see Christianity in a different light (able to have a sense of humor) than they did before. And I get to sneak a little theology into my reviews every now and then. So I keep it going. 600+ crummy church signs now....wow!

    6. My father and sister (see above) are both ridiculously good artists. See Emily's work at www.myspace.com/emilybezaire and see my dad's work at http://www.ransomfellowship.org/articles_art/A_Bezaire.html

    7. I have never voted in a presidential election...I just became a US citizen last year, so I look forward to participating from now on.

(That last one sucks, but there's nothing else interesting about me.)

  5. Joel,

I'm sorry to hear you don't enjoy the ccs blog as much as you would like, but I do think it is an interresting and effective ministry and after all as Paul said in Corinthians 9 " to the snarky I became as the snarky in order to at least save some of them." or words to that effect. The point being that there are a lot of people out there who aren't Christian because there are a lot of "Christians" not worth being like. The ability to laugh at ourselves makes it easier for others to hear what we have to say.
So, as God said to Joshua..(paraphrased) Strength and courage keep the assignment I have given to you and you will have success.
And maybe just maybe some of those churches wil realize that their marketing is in desperate need of an overhaul.

    just my thought.
