Farther than they think.

Yes. How far we have indeed strayed from the fine Christian example of our founding fathers. Take, for example, Thomas Jefferson.

This Sunday, we're going to be having a serious discussion about abstinence. Girls, wear your bikinis!!

Seriously, though...EVERY Sunday?

There's got to be a catch. Nobody can just "give away" hotdogs.

I'm guessing this isn't an outreach event to the Jewish community.

I wonder if missionaries in Africa ever give this sermon?

I suppose we should give them some credit for not going with the obvious "How to break being broke."

Ah, but does it come with free hot dogs?!?

Thanks to Ryan and Nancy for the slew of crumminess on their first submission. Everyone needs to check out their blog, and see the awesome ministry that they will be undertaking in India. There's even a link to donate, if you're so inclined.

  1. "How far have we strayed from God in 231 years?" What is this? A community of vampires? I, personally, haven't been around that long.
Or maybe their inviting the community to rate their commitment: "How far have we at The Church of the Nazarene strayed from God in 231 years?"

"Beach Nights" is what they've been calling their youth program (which meets in the basement) ever since the building sprung a leak.

How do you break the spirit of poverty? "Now, listen here, Spirit! It's time you got a second job and stuck to your budget!"

I never thought I'd see the phrase "Come get some" on a church sign! It always makes me think of Bruce Campbell in "Army of Darkness."

  4. Re: beach night. I have no problem with high school kids hitting the beach - recalls my own trips to Lake Michigan after the evening service for frisbee and the sunset.
However, it's weird that that's what the sign is advertising. "Attention creepy old men: come see teenagers in not much clothes at this church."

  5. I agree, Bethany. I don't have a problem either. Getting youth in the church is good, and it takes all kinds of creative strategies.

I do think the church sign is an odd way of advertising it. So many details that have to be left off...
